The Allure Group’s Harlem, Hamilton Park, Crown Heights Centers Honored with prestigious Eli Pick Award

May 29, 2018

The Allure Group’s Harlem, Hamilton Park and Crown Heights Centers were all honored as winners of 2018 Eli Pick Facility Leadership Awards, presented each year by the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) to the nation’s top-performing skilled nursing facilities.

The award, sponsored by ABILITY Network, was initiated by one of the ACHCA’s most revered leaders, the late Eli Pick, in 2008. He and a colleague, John Sheridan of eHealth Data Solutions, developed the awards program using data-driven criteria that would identify the highest-performing SNFs.

Recipients are identified using publicly collected data by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). That information is pulled and evaluated by an independent third party.

The criteria for the 2018 awards were as follows:

  • Current administrator holding that position for all of 2017
  • Occupancy of at least 85 percent
  • At least one CMS four-quarter average QM score equal or better than the top 10 percent in the nation for these quality measures: short-stay pain (less than 2.065 percent); long-stay pain (less than or equal to 0.3499 percent); short-stay pressure ulcers (less than or equal to 0.0 percent); long-stay pressure ulcers (less than or equal to 1.4388 percent); long-stay urinary-tract infections (less than or equal to 0.4724 percent); short-stay psychotropic meds (less than or equal to 0.0 percent); long-stay psychotropic meds (less than or equal to 5.4901 percent)
  • Other criteria, if the short-stay readmission is added: short-stay 30-day hospital return (less than or equal to 13.7707 percent); short-stay successful discharge (greater than or equal to 68.4558 percent)
  • Avoidance of special-focus facility status

(One of the usual benchmarks — an avoidance of health, fire safety complaints above “E” in scope and severity for the past three years — was not included this year because CMS did not provide 2017 data.)

Only 11 percent of the facilities nationwide — this year the number was 1,717 — qualify for this honor and we thank all of our hardworking staff who helped us to achieve these awards.
